Today, the United Nations Global Compact launched the GLN OpenAccess tool, an interactive self-assessment tool to support Global Compact participants with the implementation of the ten principles as well as with the Communication on Progress. The GLN OpenAccess tool can assist companies to improve their understanding of how the management of social, environmental and governance issues impact the business and its stakeholders.
On 21 February, 34 participants of Global Compact Japan Network (GCJN) gathered for a General Meeting to discuss strategies to re-energize and strengthen the network. An important outcome of the meeting was the unanimous endorsement by the General Meeting participants of a plan to transition to a CEO-led network. The new organizational structure will come into effect on 1 April 2008.
On 5-6 March, the United Nations Global Compact, in partnership with the Pacific Institute, convened the inaugural working conference of The CEO Water Mandate. The conference, held at UN Headquarters in New York, brought together senior representatives from numerous corporations, as well as policy leaders from civil society organizations, UN agencies as well as specialized water institutes.
The United Nations Global Compact and Lions Clubs International announced today a new collaboration between the two organizations. The agreement was signed by Mahendra Amarasuriya, President, Lions Clubs International (LCI), and Soren Petersen, Head Local Networks and Partnerships at the Global Compact Office, during the 30th Annual Lions Day with the UN at UN Headquarters in New York.
The United Nations Global Compact has appointed Mr. Claude Fussler, a former Vice President of Dow Chemical, as the new Programme Director for Caring for Climate (CfC), its climate change initiative. Mr. Fussler’s appointment will be for an initial duration of 12 months.
